The columns of choice for use with the EcoSEC GPC system are referred to as semi-micro columns since their dimensions are smaller than conventional columns in terms of internal diameter as well as in length: 4.6mm or 6mm ID x 15cm vs. 7.8mm x 30cm.
Benefits of semi-micro columns
Semi-micro column dimensions are advantageous in terms of shorter analysis time (more samples analyzed per unit time), lower solvent consumption and reduced solvent disposal cost. The EcoSEC GPC system is designed to achieve these benefits. Other GPC systems must be optimized with respect to delay or dead volume as this results in extra-column peak broadening, thus lowering resolution, accuracy and precision.
