Question:  “What is the importance of a guard column and how do you install one?”

Answer:     The purpose of the guard column is to trap highly retained sample components and particulate matter before they enter the main column. The guard column is installed after the injector and immediately before the analytical column and is designed to increase the lifetime of an analytical column.  Guard columns are available either as small replaceable columns or as guard cartridges that are easily inserted into a screw-open guard holder.

Installing a guard column is performed the same way as a primary column is installed, using stainless or PEEK tubing and fittings.
